Who was your referenced artist for the painting? Name 4 main ideas you used from your research to create your painting.
Name- Paul Gauguin
1. Tropical Landscapes like Tahiti
2. Short Brushstrokes that are popular in post impressionism
3. Undefined details and proportions
4. Contrasting colors
Describe the craftsmanship of your painting. (Is it neat and well executed?)
Some parts of the painting, such as the pond and the leaf areas are neat and came out well. Other areas, such as the bird or the background could have used more precision and attention to detail.
What was the most difficult part of this project?
The most difficult part of the project was using only color and not a lot of details because it makes it hard to tell what is in the painting. It was also difficult because most of the landscape was green, so it was hard to make separate areas distinguishable.
Describe your color choices and how they reflect the work of your chosen artist?
My color choices reflect the tropical nature of the artist’s work, through my use of green. I also tried to add contrast in certain areas which is a characteristic of my artist’s style.
Describe how the style of your landscape reflects your chosen artist.
The main ways my landscape reflects my artist is through the use of a tropical landscape. My artist frequently painted tahitian landscapes, which are usually tropical. I also used short brush strokes, which is in line with the post impressionism movement.
What do you think your chosen artist would say if he or she could see your painting today?
They would say that the brush strokes and subject are similar to their style. They would also say that the contrast works well, especially the red bird.
What would you do differently if you were to do this project again?
If I did this project again, I would choose a different landscape to paint. I chose one that was all green, which made it hard to have the different areas in the painting be separate.
